Is 4 an Unlucky Number in Feng Shui?

The Deadly 4?

Many people believe that the number 4 is unlucky because it sounds like "death" () in Chinese. As a result, property buyers tend to avoid homes or floors with the number 4, similar to how some Western cultures avoid the number 13. However, this belief is based on superstition, not Classical Feng Shui.

4 and its affinity with Floor level and House number

In reality, the number 4 has positive meanings in Chinese metaphysics. In Xuan Kong Flying Stars (玄空飞星), 4 is known as the Academic Star, representing intelligence, knowledge, and learning. When combined with 1 (forming a 4-1 star combination) in a home’s layout, it creates an ideal study or work area, known as the Wen Chang (文昌) position, which benefits students, researchers, and anyone involved in intellectual work.

Additionally, 4 can also be linked to romance and relationships, especially when paired with water elements. This makes it favorable for careers in sales, marketing, and public relations, where strong interpersonal skills are essential.

For example, in a south-facing 5-room home, if the 4-1 combination appears in the living/dining area or a bedroom, it can enhance academic success and improve relationships when water features are properly placed.

Conclusion

The number 4 is not inherently unlucky. Instead of avoiding it due to superstition, homeowners can use Feng Shui principles to harness its positive energy for learning, career growth, and relationships.

Is your Property enhancing Wealth with 5 Ghost?

Do you want Five Ghost to Carry Treasure to you?

In Five Ghost Carry Treasure (五鬼运财), the term doesn’t mean five ghosts literally carrying treasure. Instead, it’s a Feng Shui principle from Chinese Metaphysics that helps align a property with its environment in a way that attracts wealth luck. When used properly, it creates a prosperous living or work space that can boost wealth in a short time.

Five Ghost Carry Treasure (五鬼运财)
A powerful Wealth-Enhancing tool in Classical Feng Shui

In Classical Feng Shui, the "Five Ghost" refers to the Chastity Mountain (廉贞山), and "Treasure" refers to the Huge Door Water (巨门水). This technique involves aligning your property’s direction with nearby mountains and incoming water sources to draw in wealth opportunities.

Overlooking Bukit Timah and Jurong Hill from a home in Jurong West

Example 1:
If your property faces South (S2, 午), with water flowing toward it from the Southwest (SW3, 申), and a mountain or hill in the Northeast (NE2, 艮) direction, it may meet the requirements for the Five Ghost Carry Treasure setup.

Enhancing with Other Feng Shui Systems
The effects can be even stronger when combined with other Feng Shui methods. For instance, in Example 1, the positions of the mountain and water align with the Direct and Indirect Spirits principle (大零正) from Xuan Kong Feng Shui, where Southwest and Northeast are currently “timing” locations, making them ideal for water and mountain placements. Additionally, choosing an auspicious date (吉日) is essential to start this wealth-enhancing technique.

Applying Five Ghost Carry Treasure
If you’re interested in using Feng Shui to increase wealth, consult a Feng Shui expert who can assess whether this wealth-boosting principle suits your property. You may also consider a Feng Shui consultation to better understand your property’s energy and its financial potential here.

An Untold Story of Serangoon North Vista

Your home's Feng Shui quality is closely intertwined with its external surroundings, accounting for a remarkable 70% of its overall harmony and prosperity.

Siteplan of Serangoon North Vista

Exploring the Serangoon North Vista Site Plan, we find that the incoming road from the Northwest bestows residents with the incredible blessings of good health and enriched interpersonal connections. However, this Feng Shui advantage isn't universal, and not all residents get to enjoy these benefits.

Both Units A & B have the same orientation facing Southwest

Take, for instance, the Period 9 Southwest-facing homes at Serangoon North Vista, such as Units A and B. Though they share the same 4-room layout and orientation towards the picturesque landed enclave, their fates take distinctly different paths.

Both Units A and B are conveniently situated near the development's main entrance/exit, but their Feng Shui destinies diverge significantly. Unfortunately, Unit B encounters a less favorable alignment, running afoul of the Eight Killing Force's environmental affliction. This misalignment could potentially bring about injuries, health issues, and financial setbacks.

The Story of Eunos Court

Generally, the homes at Eunos Courts are generally North, South, and East facing homes in Period 8.

Siteplan of Eunos Court and its vicinity

Using a North-facing home as an illustration, this 4-room home has an auspicious double 8s at its frontage based on Xuan Kong principle. Should there be water in the frontage, this brings about general wealth and prosperity to all the occupants in the household.

This is a good feature in Period 8, but will gradually decrease when entering Period 9 which starts from 4-Feb 2024.

On a positive note, some of these units could also be benefiting from the 7-Star Robbery (七星打劫) formation. This is a good Feng Shui formation that could bless the residents with good fortune, transiting to the next 20 years and beyond.

Hence, although the homes in Eunos Court will be ready for occupancy this year and it is also the last year of Period 8, some of these homes could still be prosperous in Period 9.

Both A & B have the same layout but mirrored each other.

In this development, it is observed that the 4-room homes generally have the same floor plan and size, but some of the homes are mirrored, whether North, South, or East facing.

For example, both A and B are North-facing Homes in Period 8. Although they have the same floor plan and size, their layout mirrored each other. The Residents staying in these homes could encounter very different endeavors in life under the lens of Feng Shui.

Based on the site plan of Eunos Court, watch out for the roads entering and exiting its vicinity as the homes could be violating the environmental affliction of 8 Roads to Destructions (八路黄泉). So beware.

As every Home tells a different story, know more about your home story and its potential, or perhaps begin a new journey with your dream home right the first time.

The Story of Central Weave @ AMK

Central Weave @ AMK
Central Weave @ AMK - a new Build-to-Order (BTO) project in the Ang Mo Kio precinct

In Feng Shui, there is a Chinese saying: 山管人丁水管财, which can be literally translated as Mountain governs People's luck, while Water governs Wealth opportunities.

These landforms play an important role in determining the Feng Shui quality of a property, especially relating to the health and wealth aspect of the residents.

Using Central Weave @ AMK as an illustration, comprising of 5 residential blocks of 896 North-South facing homes in Period 9, this development is embraced by 2 hills or rather higher grounds in its vicinity in the West and Southeast directions. The residents could be blessed with good people luck (旺人丁) relating to better health, fostering better interpersonal relationships with others, etc.

It is observed that the major road junction between Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 and 8, can serve as the major Qi mouth, and if the homes are well-aligned to this cross junction, it can benefit the residents with good fortune and abundance.

On a Negative note, it may be a concern that the homes in this development are bounded by roads on all sides, and it might cause a negative impact on the residents, perhaps relating to wealth loss or their well-being. So, beware.

Nevertheless, with the well-positioned hills or higher grounds, and connecting roads in its vicinity, there is a high chance that some of the homes could be blessed with bountiful wealth opportunities not only in the next 20 years into Period 9 but beyond, conforming to a closely-guarded wealth enhancement principle commonly known as the Five Ghost Carry Treasure, or 五鬼运财 in Chinese.

Siteplan of Central Weave @ AMK

With a supportive environment, one can further ascertain and enhance the quality within the home for a better floor layout that can be personalized benefiting the residents, with Feng Shui principles, like the popularly known Flying stars, and 8 Mansions Feng Shui.

The Story of Bukit Merah Ridge

Bukit Merah Ridge - a new Build-to-Order (BTO) project under the prime location housing model

It is observed that more new public housing is located in relatively prime areas, like the recent May 2022 Sales Launch by HDB which comprises 5 new Build-to-Order (BTO) projects.

Using Bukit Merah Ridge which is one of the new projects, as an illustration, the 5 residential blocks, standing tall ranging from 29 to 48 storeys in height, is bounded by Bukit Merah View, Henderson Road, Tiong Bahru Road, and Lower Delta Road.

This development is also neighbour to City Vue @ Henderson where a five-room HDB flat there had just changed hands for an eye-popping $1.4 million recently, making it currently the most expensive HDB flat sold.

In Feng Shui, the external environment plays an important role in grading the quality of the home regardless of whether they are public housing, private condominium, apartment, or landed homes. Sometimes, public housing development can even surpass the expectation of privately owned homes, and one of the factors that made this possible is the locational factor.

Bukit Merah Ridge is relatively well-located with homes facing North and South, and a handful of them facing Northeast and East, overlooking some of the good landforms in its vicinity and beyond, especially those Homes on the higher floor; i.e. greenery at Telok Blangah Hill Park, Mount Faber Park, and the nearby Tiong Bahru Park at its frontage, and overlooking the city skyline towards the Orchard shopping belt from afar.

Some of the homes in this development are also well-designed with a relatively good home layout to connect to its conducive external environment, especially benefiting the residents in the next 20 years into the Period 9 era.

Find out what Home attracts Wealth Problems?

Recently, I have a request from a homebuyer to check on a resale home that they are considering. They have viewed the apartment and revisited it recently.

Although the wife loves the unit and its serene neighbourhood, somehow the husband feels a little uneasy and wary as something seems amiss but just not sure what it is. Hence, they decide to have a second opinion on this apartment just before sealing the deal.

Owing to the short notice, a Qi Men forecasting was done to assess the potential of the Home. The analysis reveals that this property could be a bad investment with weak or no wealth affinity, and most importantly there is a chance that the unit could also be influenced with some negative vibrational energies within, and these disturbances can be worsened if negative features can be seen in the external surrounding.

Qi Men chart of a Property with no wealth affinity,
and perhaps with negative vibrational energies

Based on the above chart, both A and B represent the Feng Shui quality of the House while C represents the Homebuyer. B indicates Wealth Loss, while A denotes that the presence of negative vibrational energies, perhaps in the Southeast sector of the house.

The analysis shows that although in their mind, they "like" the apartment, it also indicates that this property could be a bad investment with weak or no wealth affinity, and most importantly there is a chance that the unit has some negative vibrational energies within.

These disturbances can be worsened if negative features, such as dead or big trees preventing lights from entering into the house, old deserted, weird, or eerie structures, can be seen outside the house in the Southeast direction, or perhaps there is a sense of uneasiness when one is physically in the southeast sector of the house. This would invite "unwanted guests" or perhaps may denote the presence of existing ones, especially for older houses, or have been vacated for some time.

My advice is to check with the current homeowner again for more details about the unit before purchasing it as there could be more hidden stories than meet the eyes.

As every Home tells a different story, know more about its story and potentials, especially those homes in the resale market, might save you many sleepless nightmares.

If you are currently facing similar endeavors as above mentioned, or perhaps you are in the midst of choosing your next dream home and want to know more about its story and potential before sealing the deal, perhaps I can help. More details here: http://bit.ly/homeselect_ac

Your Home with the Heavenly Water

A North-South facing Homes at Kovan Wellspring

Recently in the last HDB's sales exercise, much bigger size Build-To-Order (BTO) flats in the non-mature estates of Hougang were more oversubscribed, with a rate of 1 in more than 24 applicants for each available 4-room unit as published on their website, and one of the most well-received developments in Hougang is Kovan Wellspring.

Incoming Road from the Northwest denotes Wealth aspects

Using Kovan Wellspring as an illustration, besides being in the neighbourhood to many Public and Private residences, such as Stars at Kovan, Kovan Residences, it is also well located in close proximity to essential amenities, like Heartland mall, market and foods center, and most importantly the nearby Kovan MRT station.

Under the lens of Feng Shui, the North-facing units in this development, especially those along the Tampines Road, could be blessed with better wealth, financial matters, and general prosperity, owing to the incoming road from the Northwest.

Incoming Road from the West denotes People Matters

On the other side of the development, those South-facing units overlooking the Heartland mall, Market, and Food center, could perhaps enjoy better people matters, well-being, health, and relationships. This will only be possible if a new road is opened between the development and the neighborhood amenities.

A word of caution. The cross-junction in the northwest of the development where Simon Road, Upper Serangoon Road, and Tampines Road meets, can also be a negative feature to some of these units as it could violate the environmental affliction of the 8 Killings Force(八煞黄泉), so beware.

Kovan Wellspring with its North facing Homes overlooking Tampines Road

It can be confusing as on one hand, the incoming road from the Northwest can bring more wealth opportunities to those residents in the North facing homes, and yet it could be violating the environmental affliction of the 8 Killings Force. This is possible as, for example, one can strike rich, but at the same time also fall sick.

The good news is that not all will be affected by the affliction. So if you are choosing the North-facing homes along Tampines Road in this development, be aware of the external features in the Northwest direction, and choose those units that do not violate this negative affliction.

Whose Home Value is Higher: Yours or your Neighbour?

Since the recent article and video story that I’ve posted relating to Pasir Ris 8, there were several interests for home selection consultations, particularly on the 2-bedroom apartment type in this newly launched integrated development.

If you have not read or watch its story, find out more here.

One of the requests were asking is there a difference in the Feng Shui quality between the 2 properties located on the same building, with the same floor area, but mirror floor layout, perhaps even locating side by side to each other sharing the same wall.

Generally based on Classical Feng Shui principles, the answer is a “Yes”, and the difference can be great.

In life, we must agree that no 2 individuals are the same, even for Twins, Triplets, and Quadruplets.  They can look alike but their personalities can be very different in nature.

Similar to properties, no 2 Homes are the same. They can have the same floor layout and size, located just next door, side by side to each other, or perhaps located in other buildings within the same development. However, the occupants in these homes can encounter different endeavors in life.

Units with the same Floor Layout, some with mirror and/or flip layout

Let go through some examples using the Main Door as the analysis focus based on 2-Bedroom units which satisfy the above-mentioned request; i.e. Both units have the same floor area, but mirror floor layout sharing the same wall.

Example #1
Based on the House Chart, it is observed that Unit A has its Main Door opened in the Northwest at the Door of Rest (休) supported by the Six Harmony (合). This is a relatively auspicious Main Door under the lens of Qi Men Feng Shui  (奇门风水)

The combination of these energies is an important component for a Family Home, fostering and strengthening family ties, better health, as well as a more harmonious interpersonal relationship with others as the Main Door is the gateway to the “outside business world” for incoming wealth to the family.

A North facing 2-Bedroom Units with Main Door opens in the Northwest sector

Example #2
On the Other hand, Unit B which shared the same wall as Unit A has its Main Door opened in the Northeast at the Door of Harm (伤) supported by the Red Phoenix (雀). In general, the former denotes injuries, harm, or conflicts, while the latter indicates the occupants can be highly vocal, and argumentative. When both energies reside at the Main Door, this indicates the residents could be endearing in frustration, conflicts, perhaps disharmony among themselves, and this is not a good sign in family bonding.

However, this home is great for those whose career or business involving speaking; such as a spokesperson of the company, lawyers, public speakers, or any people whose livelihood involves speaking, etc.

A North facing 2-Bedroom Units with Main Door opens in the Northeast sector

Hence, the above examples demonstrate that a property with the same floor area as its neighbour, although they are just next door, the residents can be endearing different outcomes.

Besides the floor layout, the external environment plays an important role in selecting your Dream Home, as whatever positive energies that could reside within your Home can only be realized if its external environment can provide, as there is a saying: "If you do not have hair, you can't perm hair". Here, Hair refers to the environment.
